Weeks . Almost spring break

I leaned back in my chair and stared at the last paragraph of my assignment, trying to decide whether it was good enough to submit. After a quick reread, I fixed a couple of sentences, saved the document, and closed my laptop.

Finally.

For a moment, I thought about Amy. It had been a few weeks, but I could still the excitement of our encounter, especially knowing Marcus had been waiting right outside to take her to a movie. The timing had been almost ridiculous. Amy had walked out to meet him like nothing had happened, and Marcus hadn't suspected a thing.

I couldn't help smirking at the memory. It had been reckless, definitely, but that was part of what made it so memorable.

I checked the time on my phone. I'd been in the library for nearly three hours, and my brain was starting to feel fried. With spring break coming up at the end of the week, campus had that strange feeling it always got before a break. Some people were cramming to finish assignments, while others had already mentally checked out.

I packed my laptop and notebooks into my backpack, then sat for another moment, scrolling through my phone. Sarah had sent me a message earlier, but nothing urgent. I figured I'd call her later that evening.

For now, I was just enjoying a little quiet time.

I slung my backpack over one shoulder and looked around the library. A few familiar faces were scattered among the tables, heads down over their work. Somewhere across the room, someone was quietly laughing at something on their laptop.

I stood, pushed my chair in, and started toward the exit, ready to get out of there and enjoy the rest of my afternoon.
